Bernie Sanders Has Artery Blockage, Two Stents Inserted, Cancels Upcoming Events

Politics Features Bernie Sanders

On Wednesday, the Bernie Sanders campaign released a statement which reads as follows:

“During a campaign event yesterday evening, Sen. Sanders experienced some chest discomfort. Following medical evaluation and testing he was found to have a blockage in one artery and two stents were successfully inserted. Sen. Sanders is conversing and in good spirits. He will be resting up over the next few days. We are canceling his events and appearances until further notice, and we will continue to provide appropriate updates.”

According to Politico, the campaign has also canceled an ad buy in Iowa:

Advertising Analytics, an ad tracking firm, confirmed to POLITICO that the Sanders campaign canceled the entirety of its recently scheduled ad buy in Iowa on broadcast television. The Sanders campaign had announced a $1.3 million ad buy on Monday in the state, and it was set to begin on Thursday.

At this point, what comes next is purely speculations. It’s hard not to wonder if we’ll see an announcement about the end of his campaign in coming days. Even if he recovers completely, this will only heighten the narrative that he’s too old to serve, and may hinder his chance of being elected.
