Just the other day, Trump had a Twitter meltdown over “brutal bully” Elijah Cummings, a Democratic representative from Maryland. Cummings, a 13-term congressman, has been an outspoken critic of Trump, particularly for Trump’s treatment of people of color, and chairs the House Oversight and Reform Committee. Meanwhile, Cummings has been subject to the same racist criticisms other representatives like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar and others have recently endured.
As part of his rampage against Cummings, Trump denounced Cummings’ Baltimore neighborhood as being “rat and rodent infested” and a place that “no human being would want to live.”
Cummings’ house was broken into recently, and just hours after the news broke, Trump had only this to say:
Really bad news! The Baltimore house of Elijah Cummings was robbed. Too bad!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) August 2, 2019
Like every tweet Trump has ever sent, this is not a good look. Attempting to paper over his blatant lack of empathy with sinister and self-satisfied condolences, Trump is all but allowing his racist supporters to celebrate this moment as a victory.
Per The Hill, a spokesman for the Baltimore police told news outlets that “it is unknown if any property was taken from the location.”
