Girl K, led by 20-year-old Chicago singer/songwriter Kathy Patino, have shared a new single “Settle,” which follows their sophomore album For Now, released earlier this March. The single also comes with an accompanying Xitlaly Viveros-directed video, which is premiering exclusively at Paste. Last year, Paste featured Girl K in our list of 15 Chicago Bands You Need to Know in 2018.
“Settle” is interspersed with eccentric guitar tones and Patino’s luscious lead vocals. It’s wistful yet playful indie-pop with a heart of gold and beatific melodies, and the sped-up conclusion gives it one last jolt of bubbly elation. The video sees Patino and her band posing in front of a mirror, violently hanging up a corded telephone, wandering along the beach with a balloon and later, letting said balloon go.
