AOC: Being the President's Daughter Isn’t a Job, Ivanka

Ivanka Trump is no stranger to acting as a diplomat for her father, and after her embarrassing G20 Summit conversation (or attempted conversation) that’s gone viral, Alexandria Oscasio-Cortez has had enough of the president’s daughter, per Yahoo! News.

By now the world—or at least Twitter—has seen the viral video of Ivanka awkwardly trying to butt into a conversation between French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Theresa May, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund Christine Lagarde. In the video, it’s obvious Trump is trying to shoehorn herself into the conversation, and once she does, well, no one seems to have a reply ready for her comment.

Ocasio-Cortez represents the New York’s 14th congressional district, and she’s also known to always speak her mind on things. With the Ivanka video circulating, it seems AOC has said what everyone else has simply been thinking.

“It may be shocking to some, but being someone’s daughter actually isn’t a career qualification,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote on Twitter. “It hurts our diplomatic standing when the President phones it in & the world moves on. The US needs our President working the G20. Bringing a qualified diplomat couldn’t hurt either.”

However, Ivanka did get the spotlight on her for a bit during the summit. During her speech at the Special Event on Women’s Empowerment, she called on the world’s leaders to empower women and praised her father for establishing the Women’s Global Development and Prosperity Initiative, per The Japan Times.

AOC wasn’t the only person on Twitter to show some outrage or disgust at the interaction in Osaka, with some likening Ivanka to a rich intern and others reminding the world of Ivanka’s past.

Nonetheless, Ivanka seemed to have a good message of women’s empowerment during her G20 speech, but she’s probably not the best person to be giving the speech, especially since her father, whom she so adoringly praises, has now been accused of sexual harassment, misconduct and assault more than a dozen or so times.
