U.K. Teen Greets Trump By Mowing Giant Phallus Into Field Near Airport

Climate change is real, innit?

We are living in times that resist subtlety. We are living in times that demand political action. We are also living in times where giant penises are still funny.

That’s the thought process behind British 18-year-old Ollie Nancarrow’s stunning new work of environmental art. Over the weekend, the U.K. teen mowed a series of images into a lawn near where Trump will be landing upon this week’s visit to Essex.

Among those images: a polar bear, the words “climate change is real,” and a phallus pointing to the words “Oi Trump.” Highbrow, huh?

The unfathomably British-sounding publication Bishop’s Stortford Independent confronted 2019’s Picasso about the modern Guernica. Never one to mince words, Nancarrow echoed his art: “Climate change is real,” carefully choosing to drop the “innit?” from the end of his statement.

Presumably from the parking lot of a Nando’s, Nancarrow elaborated that “Donald Trump and his denial of climate change are not welcome and I want him to be fully aware of that when he flies in to Stansted on Monday.”

The Trump administration has been steadily rolling back every form of environmental progress the U.S. has made since he stepped into office. Just last week, Trump ordered the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) to only track the possible effects of climate change until 2040, failing to understand that climate change is a long-term, mass-scale catastrophe slowly unfolding in front of us.

As a reminder: we are living through the sixth mass extinction event that this planet has seen. This is a fundamentally human-provoked event, one with an immense amount of scientific research to back it. On scales both massive and miniscule, we must be working toward more eco-friendly behaviors.

Nancarrow’s harrowing environmental art confronts all these realities. The young artist’s political praxis extends beyond his art; Nancarrow founded Born Eco, an online marketplace for eco-friendly traders.
