The Best Comic Book Covers of January 2019

Comics Galleries Comics

We capped off every single month in 2018 with a gallery of our favorite comic-book cover art—a stunning illustration cherry on top of the sequential sundae—and we have no intention of stopping that streak in 2019. You’ll find some of our favorite artists from the previous year nabbing spots in this fresh-start gallery, including Jenny Frison for her jaw-dropping Wonder Woman variants, Alex Ross for his career-best Immortal Hulk and Captain America work and Andrea Sorrentino for his increasingly inventive abstract Gideon Falls portraiture. Joining our standbys are new names like Becca Carey, who stood out among Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s many cover contributors; Jana Schirmer, who somehow matched Stephanie Hans’s stunning Die work; and Mike Norton, whose gloriously absurd Battlepug just couldn’t be ignored. January may be over, but a brand-new year of eye-pleasing cover art is just getting started.
