We love Jeff Bridges around here, whether he’s appearing in incredibly vague-sounding environmental documentaries or expanding the scope of our waking (and sleeping) consciousness with his Sleeping Tapes. I mean, come on—it’s the dude. Everyone loves Jeff Bridges, whether they’re members of multiplex audiences or his peers in the entertainment industry.

As such, it’s little surprise to hear that the versatile actor will be honored with the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the upcoming Golden Globe Awards on Jan. 6, 2019. The ceremony, hosted by Sandra Oh and Andy Samberg, will be airing live on NBC at 5 p.m. PT.

“The Hollywood Foreign Press Association is delighted to bestow the 2019 Cecil B. deMille Award on Jeff Bridges,” said HFPA President Meher Tatna. “Bridges’ brilliant body of work across diverse genres has captured the hearts and minds of audiences worldwide for more than six decades. We look forward to celebrating “the Dude” and his remarkable career and philanthropic achievements at the upcoming Golden Globe Awards.”

Bridges’ roles almost need no introduction. From The Big Lebowski and True Grit, to Tron or Starman, the guy has pretty much done it all. He’s worked his way from gritty dramas such as Hell or High Water to comedies and high fantasy roles, while simultaneously becoming known for his philanthropic efforts. He founded the organization End Hunger Network in 1983, and is currently the spokesman for the Share Our Strength/No Kid Hungry campaign. He’s essentially always been considered one of the industry’s class acts, which makes him a perfect choice for the Cecil B. DeMille Award, which is given each year to “a talented individual who has made a lasting impact in the world of entertainment.”

Previous recipients of the award have included Oprah Winfrey, George Clooney, Robert De Niro, Harrison Ford, Jodie Foster, Audrey Hepburn, Sidney Poitier, Denzel Washington, Robin Williams and many others.
