HBO  has ordered a series adaptation of Audrey Niffenegger’s 2003 novel The Time Traveler’s Wife from Sherlock and Doctor Who producer Steven Moffat.

The novel, blending elements of science fiction and romance, follows a man born with a genetic disorder that causes him to inexplicably travel through time. Despite his best efforts to control the time travel, his frequently dangerous disappearances cause issues in his marriage.

Moffat is a longtime fan of the novel, once even writing an episode of Doctor Who in response to it, as Deadline reports. In a statement, he described the book as “a story of happy ever after—but not necessarily in that order.”

The adaptation is the third big project that HBO has competitively bid for and landed this year, in addition to J.J. Abrams’ fantasy drama Demimonde and Joss Whedon’s science-fiction epic The Nevers.

Previously, The TIme Traveler’s Wife was adapted in 2009 as a feature film starring Rachel McAdams and Eric Bana. Stay tuned for further updates.
