Listen to Dr. Dog’s Determined New Single, “Go Out Fighting”

The second single off their forthcoming album Critical Equation

Music News Dr. Dog

The doctors will see you now—Dr. Dog, that is. The psych-rock band from Philadelphia, Pa., are coming back once more to release their forthcoming album Critical Equation, due out April 27 via Thirty Tigers. The band announced the album last month with the opening track, “Listening In,” which you can hear below.

The forthcoming LP is the first album Dr. Dog have recorded under the direction of an outside producer, Gus Seyffert (Beck, Bedouine). “Go Out Fighting,” the second single released off the album, is said to be inspired by a collection of sources, from reggae music to the Hammond s6 organ. In a handwritten statement, lead guitarist Scott McMicken shares the inspiration he gets from writing and playing music.

The letter details the influences drawn from to create “Go Out Fighting” and the importance of writing music to McMicken. “To sit down and write a song has always given me a window into the realization that I have a choice to make,” he writes, “to rise above my own weakness and to love.” Read the full letter below.

When the album was first announced, the band summarized the guiding force behind it in one concrete statement: “Fuck Dr. Dog.” This statement was said to have pulled the band out of a hiatus of self-doubt that had plagued the indie-rockers, enabling them to accomplish what they describe as their most “fertile creative period in memory.”

Soon, the band will embark on a tour in support of their forthcoming album, kicking off their run at the McDowell Mountain Music Fest in Phoenix, Ariz. Tickets for the shows are available through the band’s website.
