Photos: Behind the Scenes with Garland Jeffreys in Chicago

Music Galleries Garland Jeffreys

As Garland Jeffreys explained to Paste during his stop at the studio last April, “You’re looking at a guy, content and happy.” Jeffreys has earned that lilting, charming disposition, having paved a storied career that officially began in 1973 with his first solo release. The last six years have proved especially fruitful for the New York native, yielding three albums, including this year’s 14 Steps to Harlem. Fitting for Jeffrey’s freewheeling, soulful approach, City Winery created a wine in the man’s name. Paste photographer Sarah Hess caught his performance at the Chicago location for an evening of rich songcraft and shared libations, as seen in the gallery above. Garland Jeffreys is playing select dates in June.
